How One Note Taking Method Changed My Writing For the Better

I’ve learned more about writing with this notebook than I did in any class.

The exact notebook I use. Photo and product from Denik.

I’ve always been a notebook hoarder.

If you asked my mom, she’d undoubtedly point at me and say, “This kid? Oh, they’ve always had a million notebooks. Not everyone knows they want to be a writer, but Abby was seven years old when they told me they wanted to grow up to be a famous author!”

And, yes — it would be that exact speech.

I’ve heard it many times, and so has everyone else.

I hope she never stops.

As I said, I hoard notebooks, and all of Earth could attest that I’m telling the truth.

They’ll also tell you I fill them all up completely.

But I haven’t used any of them the way I use this one.

An All Too Easy Process

I love every kind of notebook and journal that exists.

Commonplace, word definitions only, brain dumps, gratitude journals, diaries — anything and everything.

Since I enjoy doing all of those things, I figured it would be better if I didn’t have to carry 10 individual notebooks in my giant bag every day.
