Being Grateful In 2020

There were many times in 2019 where I didn’t know how to be grateful.

Things were falling apart around me, I was failing classes, I had dropped out of college.

But there were the good parts of 2019, too. It was just that the bad parts made it hard to see them.

Now, let’s talk about how we can be grateful for the good and the bad in the new year.

Use a Gratitude Journal

This is probably the most obvious one I’ll talk about here. I say ‘obvious’ because everyone and their grandmother has probably told you to start a gratitude journal by this point.

But I’m putting it on this list because starting a gratitude journal these last few months of 2019 has drastically changed my life.

I was in an intensive therapy program for the latter half of this year. One thing that they pushed and pushed in this program was for us to think of good things that have happened every day.

Each morning we would list off one to three things we were thankful for, no matter how insignificant they seemed. Some people’s were simply, “I’m thankful to have woken up today.”
